ISBN # 1-886045-00-3
Dedicated to my wife and boys and the remnant of God’s people who choose to believe for the restoration of their marriages.
Has satan been successful in tearing down your marriage? Have you recognized and understood that it is this subtle deception that is the root cause of destroyed marriages and families? Yet, God Himself has made ample provisions for marriage healing through the atoning work of His Son Jesus. He has given each one of us a measure of faith and now it’s really up to us to believe Him to restore ALL that satan has stolen from us. The Bible says that the prayer of the righteous avail much. That’s why God taught us to pray to Him, the Almighty God, in the powerful Name of His Son Jesus Christ! Our God is not a wimpy, ineffectual god. He is the God of heaven and earth and Lord of all! Hallelujah!
You may not have received encouragement for restoration in your own marriage, or you may feel your situation is hopeless. Either way, know, that satan has no authority to continue his work of destruction when faith in God is present. No marriage is too difficult for God to heal. God loves you and wants your marriage to be healed for His glory! And we, in this ministry, are standing in faith for God to accomplish His work of marriage restoration in every covenant marriage in which separation and divorce has occurred. We hope that you along with us will join us in loudly proclaiming to the enemy in Jesus mighty Nam “Satan, you’re not stealing my marriage!”
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself for of the water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself, a glorious Church, not having spot nor wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holyland without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hateth his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the Church: for we are members of His Body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh…Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
YOU’RE NOT STEALING MY MARRIAGE!
My People Perish For Lack Of Knowledge
Just twelve short years ago I didn’t have a very accurate perception of satan’s work in the earth. Oh, sure, I had read about him in the Bible, but I had no firsthand knowledge of the reality of the spiritual warfare in which we are engaged. Nor did I have a real grasp of the totality of Jesus’s finished work and about what it means for those who put their trust in Him. Thought I had general head knowledge of the fact that Jesus was the Son of God and that he died for our sins, I suppose I was just assenting to the truths of the Bible. Many so-called Christians are in the same spot today that I was in not so long ago.
I grew up on a cattle ranch in the mountains of San Diego County. As a young boy, I learned firsthand about cattle and horses and good old-fashioned hard work. Even today I appreciate the fact that I was shown the value of work and learned things that many city boys have not had the opportunity of learning. But recently, I remembered how I thought I knew plenty about cow horse ten to fifteen hours a day, many days in a row that I discovered how little I knew about them.
If you’ll allow me, I’d like to relay one particularly dangerous episode I experienced on the ranch. I well remember the time when my brother Chuck and I were driving a small band of Hereford steers from one pasture, down a road eight miles to another pasture. These were three year old steers which probably weighed in at 800 to 1000 pounds each and were only moderately controllable when being driven.
Suddenly, one of the larger steers started going off the road through the fence all by himself. Chuck quickly decided to pursue this maverick steer. Another cowhand and I attempted to lead the rest of the herd under a bridge to a little stream where they might get water. After we got them quieted somewhat I left the other cowboy watching over them, and I stared looking for Chuck and the steer. Twenty minutes of riding and twenty six broken fences later, I caught up with them. Chuck had just roped the head of that steer by its rather long horns and had dalled the rope around the saddle horn. Chuck was riding “Dusty,” a good-sized, mighty-fine black horse that he had raised from a cold, and whom he had broken and trained as a roping horse. Chuck and Dusty knew each other very well, and together they had done a fine job of roping this steer.
I was on a slighter built Arabian sorrel which was very fast, as Arabian’s frequently are, but was not quite as predictable as cow horses should be. Well, just as I arrived, Chuck was sitting on Dusty with the rope dallied to his saddle horn and the other end around that steer’s horns. The horse and steer were about 25 to 30 feet apart and the line was taut. Instinctively, I could see the danger in the situation, and I knew I must unleash my own lariat and heel that steer. I had spent much time team--roping with Chuck, and I was the one who usually roped the hind feet so the cow, steer, or bull could be toppled to the ground. Before I used my lariat, suddenly that steer made an about face and headed directly for Chuck’s horse. I could see those two-foot horns heading right for Dusty’s chest, and I knew that my efforts would be too slow to ne of any help. I had a sickening feeling as I recognized the seriousness of the attack coming against my sixteen-year-old brother. Though I was only fourteen-and-a-half, I had already been chased by mad cattle, been rolled upon by horsed and nearly gored by mean steers or bulls on more than one occasion.
Well, just as that steer got to within a foot of knocking Dusty and rider for a loop, the steer was jerked up short by a rope which had wrapped itself around a small bush, with the other end still securely fastened to Chucks saddle horn.
Everything happened so quickly that Chuck did not have the presence of mind to unwind the rope from the saddle horn. That was fortunate. It was also good that the well trained cow horse remained obedient to his master and didn’t panic. That steer was jerked up short; but though but thought he stopped, I knew it was only for a moment. I would have to rope those hind feet quickly, or we would have a repeat performance with a different ending I did get my rope on that steer, and in a moment that thousand pound animal was toppled. If I hadn’t gad firsthand knowledge of how mean cattle can be, I wouldn’t have had enough instinct and ability to have been able to keep that mean critter from injuring or killing my brother.
I hadn’t had much more than head knowledge up to that point. Until I learned how to rope cattle in the wild, (after being chased by them) and how to doctor and care for their needs, my knowledge had no substance and wasn’t very practical. But once I learned how cattle acted and what their capabilities were, I could position myself in such a way as to outsmart them.
It is somewhat the same with the devil. Until you finally realize that you are in a spiritual battle with a cruel devil, and you understand and know how to use the provisions God has given, you will never take your rightful position of authority in Jesus Christ to see the evil defeated. You don’t get to know the capabilities of our spiritual weapons until you get some experience in battle. And neither the world nor satan will tell you of your capabilities and authority in the Lord. But God in His Word makes clear just what His plan is and the tremendous provision He has made to insure our victory.
You Must Be Born Again
In all the years of my growing up, no one ever told me I had to be born again in order to ever the kingdom of God. As my years rolled by and destruction came into my life, no one ever said there was an enemy who was out to keep me from being and becoming what God would have me to be. If I would have thought about the kingdom of God, it would have been that it was not relative to us until we entered heaven after our dearth, if we were fortunate enough to get there. I had no concept of the fact that I could enter into this kingdom right now by making Jesus Christ the Lord of much life. No one had ever told me. I suspect many of you may be in that same position today in which I found myself not too many years ago. Has destruction occurred in your life, in your marriage, in your finances, or in your health? Do you realize that you, too, are in a battle for your very existence and for the future of your marriage and home?
I didn’t realize that I was living under the authority of the prince of this world, satan, and that I had no authority over his agents, and the demons of hell. And you may not yet realize this same thing, either. Imagine some greenhorn on a ranch who finds himself in a severe predicament. If he had some knowledge of cattle ranching, he could have dominion over the steers, bulls, and cows who would otherwise do him in. Of course, the dominion we as believers have over satan is far greater than that we might gain over cattle by using human knowledge and training. Even if your earthly father was an experienced cowhand and had imparted his knowledge to you so that you knew how to outsmart the cattle, if you were disobedient to his instructions, you might find yourself in some terrible predicaments.
Satan likes nothing more than to get us into a position of being disobedient to God. God loves us so much that He has made ample provision for us. Notice in John 10:10 where Jesus tells us “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, but I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly!”
Satan has been stealing the authority and possessions of God’s people for generations. Why? Because people don’t have a knowledge of the power and the promises that are available to them. In Old Testament times, the Israelites didn’t always walk in the authority of the covenant which God had freely mad with them, thus defeat and destruction preyed upon them.
Seek Ye The Lord
While He May Be Found
I didn’t realize that I could be linked to Almighty God through covenant with Him. Even after receiving Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord, it took some time for me to discover the power God has given those who believe in Him! We have ALL power and authority over the enemy. Not just a little but ALL power. Not knowing the tremendous value of our covenant relationship is a little bit like being given the power-of-attorney over a bank account of millions of dollars and never knowing we had that account available to us.
If we don’t realize there is an enemy, that we are at war, or that we have authority, then we have been deceived and will be defeated at every turn by an adversary who shows us no mercy.
I finally learned that the enemy is playing for keeps. He doesn’t care if we live or die. What he is really interested in is to prevent us from possessing or using the weapons of our warfare to destroy him. He wants to neutralize us He is a little bit like that wayward, rebellious steer my brother and I once encountered as teenage cowhands. If I hadn’t known how to rope him and defeat him, he could have killed both my brother and me.
But the Lord knows that we have a wicked adversary, the devil. God threw him out of heaven when he became a rebellious angel filled with price, seeking a position of equality with God, his Creator. And God made provision for us to defeat him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:9-10: ”That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believes us to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Many of us have assented to that fact, but have never truly asked Jesus into our lives, made Him Lord, or confessed with our mouths that we were seeking and receiving Him as our Lord and Savior.
Although I had gone to church for over thirty years, I had never accepted Him and His finished work at calvary. My life was not being lived as one of those who were resurrected with Him. When trials came, I saw no victories. I never led another soul to the Lord, never considered for a moment the fact that God could manifest His power or a miraculous healing through my life, and certainly I had never laid hands on the sick to see them recover. I was deceived by the devil (the god of this world) into thinking that I was alright with God. And although I had sought Him many times in my own way, I never received Him. I had no power with God. Now I know that God was watching over me because He knew that someday His presence would fill my life.
There were several instances in my life as a child (and later on) that I should have been killed, but our loving Father always brought me through.
God is calling all of us into His kingdom and service, but many times we become distracted by doing our own thin. If we are unwilling to submit to God, His authority, and loving plan for our lives, we reject God’s provision for an abundant life.
Now read the rest of John 10:10. Notice that Jesus says, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Abundant Life Is For You
God wants us to have everything we need. But most of us are so consumed by our won interest and lifestyles that we fail to see the benefits of giving ourselves to our Maker and reaping not only eternal life, but also the very best of living in this life.
I lived over fifty years of my life apart from God. Imagine the change in my life that occurred when I became a Christian. At the time, I was in the middle of a tragic divorce after having been married to Lynne for eleven years. We had two wonderful sons, Andrew and Matthew, ages 9 and 6. Both Lynne and I had been married before, and because we were not saved, and did not know who our enemy was, we both saw our previous marriages be devoured by the enemy.
Lynne had left our home seeking space, and six months later I became born again. She had felt emptiness in our marriage and in herself which I could not fill. Rather interestingly, six months earlier, I had a dream in which I saw her as dead, as a dry piece of crackling. I was carrying her around looking for water to pour over her. In the dream I imagined that she was like a sponge, and if I could only get her to water, she would come back to life. But I found no one who could give me that water that she and I so desperately needed in order for her to be revived.
A year had gone by since the dream. Lynne had left home, and not knowing what to do, I made another mistake, that of seeking legal advice. The next thing I knew, I had filed for divorce. Yet that was the last thing I wanted. I dearly loved Lynne, but I had no revelation that I might stand for my marriage. I was being jerked around by the devil.
But praise God! The month before, I had gotten saved! And things were slowly beginning to change. Three months after divorce proceedings began, as Lynne and I met in a restaurant to discuss some financial matters, I told her that I had received Jesus as my Lord. I also told her that I was truly sorry for the ways in which I had let her down in our marriage; and I asked her forgiveness. I also made a statement that from now on, everything that I did would be based upon the principles of the Bible and its teachings. We sat there for two hours as God led me through scripture passages to read to her. I was confessing with my mouth the Lord Jesus.
A month after this as I was speaking with my daughter Joan on the phone she related that the dream sounded similar to the story in John 4:7-14 of Jesus at the well with the Samaritan woman. There we find “Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” As I read that passage, it suddenly dawned upon me that it was the living water” that I had been searching for in the dream. I discovered that Lynne and I needed this living water of the flow of the Holy Spirit. And God was giving me a revelation, too, that either by prayer or by example I would have some part in bringing this living water to Lynne for her redemption. From that moment forward I began to pray incessantly and fervently for my separated wife’s redemption. I was new in the lord, but I became like that sponge—soaking up godly wisdom and knowledge from every source there was available.
As I grew in the Lord, I could see that the plan of God for myself and for my family was being thwarted by the deceiver – satan. It had been him was well as my sin (plus the fact that I was not in covenant with God), that had caused the destruction which had occurred in both my marriages. But now I was also receiving an increase in faith to trust God to restore what the enemy had destroyed.
Revelation About The Enemy
One year after Lynne had left our home, while divorce proceedings were in full swing, she and the children came home. This was a definite answer to prayer. In my zeal and knowing that I needed to get her the living water that I had dreamed about, I took her to meetings were the Word was being taught. This was very difficult for her as she still had not received Jesus as her Savior. Before we left the meetings to head home, Lynne let me know that she was unable to continue in our marriage and would be leaving me in another few days. I just felt sic. We had spent a month and a half together and it was going to be so hard to see her leave again. I was growing so much stronger in the Lord. I could look back over my life and for the first time see areas where satan had led me to hurt others. And now I was becoming truly sorrowful and wanting to change.
The night before Lynne left, I awakened early in the morning with an urge to pray in tongues and stretch out my hands over my sleeping wife and children. I got excited about God’s Word was giving me. “Satan, you’re the enemy, not my wife or any person.” I got out of bed and went into the room where Lynne was sleeping. I kneeled down beside her and began to pray in my Holy Spirit language, with my hands stretched out six inches above her body. Naturally she awakened to this husband who had now just lost his marbles. I prayed there for over an hour, just being obedient to what I felt God’s Holy Spirit telling me to do, and telling the devil “You’re not stealing my marriage!”
In John 3:8 we find “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” We know that Jesus Christ did that as He shed His blood at calvary, and through His resurrection from the dead. God defeated satan in every area. Jesus said that he received all power and authority over the devil and that He was transferring that power on earth to His followers, the Christians, so they could have dominion over everything that is on this earth. This means that satan’s power over our lives is forever broken! Hallelujah!
He Who is Born of God Overcomes The World
That prayer over Lynne that early morning was the moment that the enemy’s stronghold over my marriage was defeated. I knew that morning that I had power and authority to release my wife and family form the power of the enemy. Though she went on to leave me, I knew that the enemy was defeated! And I let the devil know in no uncertain terms that my family was sealed for God; we were claimed for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom! I stood on Mark 11:23 where Jesus said “For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, ‘Be thou removed and cast into the sea;’ and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” I understood that because of my covenant position with God and with my wife, I knew I had the victory over the enemy. It would be another year before God would see our hearts changed to the point that when we did come back together, Lynne would immediately give herself to Jesus, be water baptized and we would be remarried.
Though God desires couples to come back together again, Jesus paid too high a price for His victory over the enemy to see His people compromise and live defeated lives. God, through His Son Jesus, conquered the enemy for us and made a show of his defeat openly so that we might not only have revelation of his defat, but that we could learn how to walk in our authority, using the Name and the blood of Jesus over every attack of the enemy, (Philippians 2:10).
God’s desire is for husbands and wives to walk in harmony, in peace, and in unity. He wants couples to live in total victory, free from resentment, rebellion, hardness of heart, and pride. He wants us to be faithful, responsible, nurturing, caring, kind and loving people who build up our marriages and not tear them down. He wants us to walk in meekness and humbleness of heart, preferring others over ourselves, and laying down our lives for our families in Christ’s love. Jesus wants to give us one heart and one way for our good and for the food of our children after us. He wants us to receive a heart so filled with His love that we must pour out that love upon all around us. That love from God will also motivate us to take whatever action is necessary to establish, strengthen, and protect our homes and families.
My family and I wall learned many lessons through this attack of the enemy on our lives. We learned very early how much our Father loves us (John 3:16). He’ll never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) Jesus said Himself that the Son has set us free, therefore we are to be free indeed (John 8:36). In that freedom, we know that we are not here to do our won will, but God’s (John 6:38). We began on the path to total victory in our marriage.
We do not need to bow our knee to the attacks of satan. We can have success in every instance if we do things God’s way. I truly believe that our spouses will be drawn to that supernatural, selfless, unconditional love of the Lord when they see it in operation in our lives. God has saved us and equipped the enemy. Our job is to follow our Commanding Officer (the Lord Jesus), use His weapons, and walk by faith. The enemy is already defeated. And when we are faced with an obstacle, we are to speak to it at God’s command saying: Be removed in Jesus’ Name! Then we are to act upon the truth of our covenant union with God and with each other, no matter what the situation may look like, and maintain our position, standing in faith and God’s live until the victory is ours. The Word from the Lord is that we must stand up and fight FOR our marriages and families. Satan has no right to oppress you or divide your marriage. God is able to destroy the yoke of oppression and lift the heavy weight of sin we bear, through faith in Jesus Christ and His shed blood. He wants to reverse the curs and turn what looks like a defeat into victory. What the enemy means for evil, God will turn it and use it for good to the saving of your whole household! (Genesis 50:21)
No, Indeed! Satan, You’re Not Going To Steal Our Marriage!
