His and Her Wedding
We are excited to welcome all of you to witness the marriage of HIS and HER. Today, HIS and HER you are establishing a covenant of marriage, before God and before all of these family members and friends as witnesses.
Marriage was instituted by God and regulated by His commandments and blessed by our Lord Jesus Christ and is to be recognized and held in honor amongst all men.
In Genesis 2:18-25 In the Garden of Eden, after God had created the whole world, the heavens, the animals and then man, he said it is not good that man should live alone. He then created a woman out of the side of Adam, who he had placed in a sleep. Basically, you could say they were “a one flesh entity” But then God presented Eve to Adam. They truly became one flesh in their union.
Today, HIS and HER you have given me the distinct pleasure of being present to witness the union of yourselves and all of your family members In a covenant.
Who gives HER to be married to HIS?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask you to witness this exchange of vows of HIS and HER. We ask your presence, Lord, in establishing an unbreakable covenant with them in their marriage just as you did for Adam and Eve.
To you, the witnesses of these marriage vows, you too have an important part to play. Your part is to encourage, support and pray for them for the remainder of their lives. If you promise to do that, will you say out loud, I will?
HIS….Will you commit yourself to fulfilling your covenant of marriage vows with the help of Jesus Christ? If so say I Will
HER… Will you commit yourself to fulfilling your covenant of marriage vows with the help of Jesus Christ? If so say I Will
Message HIS and HER, as Christians, you have elected to speak your wedding vows before your friends and family who are assembled here and before God almighty. As we have discussed and I know you realize this will require your commitment, not only to each other but to your family, extended family and most importantly to God.
God will be with you, as Christians, to walk with you the good times and even the more difficult times which may occur in all marriages. By bonding together as a one flesh couple you will receive the blessing of having your spouse encourage and lift you up as well as enjoy those very precious moments which will come into your lives.
Your witness as a married couple will be a blessing to all who come in contact with you, and certainly to your family members who will follow after you. Live it well, as unto our Lord Jesus.
In the bible we seem much spoken about the sanctity of marriage. We will remember that Jesus performed his first miracle at the wedding in Cana. He turned the water into wine. At a time when see such ridiculing of the state of marriage, or what is God’s plan for marriage we all join joyfully with you as you come together and express your vows to each other. For all of the children whose lives will follow yours, your commitment to each other will be an inspiration.
As our Lord depicted, marriage, with God as a witness is a sacred commitment of two people, with God.
If we think for a moment of the various covenants made in the Bible from the
early Abrahamic Covenant, instituted by God himself, to Abraham to establish a new Nation of people who God himself has led, ruled over, and protected for centuries. Then there was the covenant to Noah to bring he and his family through a flood which would destroy all others. In all of these God has remained true to the words which he spoke.
In I Samuel 18:3-4 “And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.”
I am always encouraged by the covenant made between God, David and Jonathan not as a marriage covenant, but as a covenant of loyalty and protection. In that covenant, we see the loyalty of David to Jonathan and Jonathan to David and how it even impacted King Saul as a member of that covenant.
Remember when Saul and Jonathan died in battle. 2 Sam 1:
Remember Mephibisheth, Jonathan’s crippled son. Sam 21:7.
That is a point which I wish to make to you, HIS and you, HER, to always be there to encourage and speak well of your spouse. That is true of other family members who are also brought into the covenant you are making on this day.
I just want you to know that we as your family and friends will always be here to help you walk this God ordained path for the entirety of your remaining days
Now for the exchange of vows.
“I, Jeff, take you Kristi, to be my wedded wife, and I do promise and covenant before God and these witnesses, to be your loving and faithful husband, in times of plenty and times of want, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health as long as we both shall live.”
The wedding ring has been a symbol of unending covenant promises which you have just made to each other and is represented by the value of the metals which are in the ring and the unending band of metal that represents our unending love for each other.
